Top 10 fruity gins for this spring

It’s spring! The sun has come out… sort of. Colour has started to come back into the world. And our craving for fruity gin is perhaps at its peak. Until summer. What are we like?

Fruity gins capture the essence of spring, whether it’s the tartness of raspberries, the sweet zest of citrus, or the delicate notes of cherry blossom, these flavours complement the botanicals in gin beautifully. Every product below is just waiting to be splashed with tonic or popped into a sprightly spring cocktail.

So come take a look at the following 10 fabulously fruity gins to enjoy this spring!

The gin: Alnwick Sloe Gin 50cl

The fruit: Sloe berries

Why we want it: Sloe gin is a proper British classic thanks to its blend of sweet, tart, and rich flavours but it’s often associated with winter. Its hearty qualities suit winter very well, but it’s also so fruity and fun enough for spring, particularly when lengthened with good-quality tonic water. This one from Alnwick is made with local, hand-picked Northumberland sloe berries, plus a natural berry concentrate. Lovely.

The gin: Jaffa Cake Gin 70cl

The fruit: Orange… ish. Jaffa Cakes are a fruit, right? One of our five a day, certainly.

Why we want it: Because this gin tastes like Jaffa Cakes. Do you really need another reason?

The gin: King’s Hill Rhubarb & Raspberry Gin 70cl

The fruit: Rhubarb and raspberry.

Why we want it: Rhubarb and raspberry is such a great combo. It’s all tart and sweet and red. It’s going to look good in the glass. It’s going to taste great. What’s not to like?

The gin: Shivering Mountain Peak District Pink Gin 70cl

The fruit: Pink grapefruit

Why we want it: Pink gins don’t need to be sweet and Shivering Mountain has proved that by using the bittersweet, zesty pink grapefruit to great effect here. A really refreshing gin awaits.

The gin: Akori Cherry Blossom Gin 70cl

The fruit: Cherry blossom

Why we want it: A Japanese-inspired gin, the key botanical is cherry blossom (hence the name), the symbolic Japanese flower. Which is not a fruit. But cherries are. Taste this and enjoy the floral/cherry/almond vibes and you’ll get why it’s made this list.

The gin: Half Hitch Pink Berry Gin 70cl

The fruit: Raspberry, strawberry and blackberry

Why we want it: A symphony of raspberry, strawberry, and blackberry comes together in beautiful harmony here in a gin that has more berry brilliance than Johnny B. Goode.

The gin: Beckett’s Barrel Aged Sloe Gin 50cl

The fruit: Sloe gin

Why we want it: Another sloe gin, yes, but a barrel-aged one. An impressive three years in bourbon casks, no less, which brings vanilla, caramel, and oaky goodness to this fruity treat. Tell me you’ve tasted a gin like this before.

The gin: Blackwater Wexford Strawberry Gin 50cl

The fruit: Strawberries.

Why we want it: Using strawberries grown in County Wexford as a botanical and then infusing more strawberries after distillation means Blackwater has created a very tasty flavoured gin. There’s no added sugar or sweetener either. The strawberries are doing all the work here.

The gin: Fallen Angel Blackcurrant Gin 70cl

The fruit: Blackcurrant.

Why we want it: Take a look at that bottle. Pretty wild. The gin inside is very nice too, made with a good helping of blackcurrant, balanced with a selection of herbs and spices. It should make for an intriguing twist on classic gin cocktails.

The gin: Pinnock Rhubarb & Strawberry Gin 50cl

The fruit: Rhubarb and strawberry.

Why we want it: Fresh locally sourced rhubarb and strawberry don’t just give this gin a subtle blushing colour, but also a lovely fruity, tart, and sweet flavour. Pair with a simple Mediterranean tonic and welcome the longer, warmer evenings.
