The VinePair Podcast: The Spritz Is a Vibe, Not a Recipe

When abiding by the tried-and-true formula, making a Spritz is as easy as three, two, one (three parts Prosecco, two parts liqueur, and one part soda water). But despite its straightforward build, many liken the Spritz to more of a feeling and lifestyle than a standard drink recipe. It’s the embodiment of a lazy sunny afternoon with sunglasses, sandals, chaise lounges, and charcuterie boards.

Given the drink’s popularity, it would seem like a no-brainer for bartenders to start experimenting with new takes on the beloved Spritz, but perhaps bringing it into the world of mixology goes against the very nature of everything the Spritz stands for.

On this episode of the “VinePair Podcast,” Joanna and Zach discuss the state of the Spritz in 2024. They chat about why it remains a very popular drink, whether there’s room for other versions besides the Aperol Spritz, and why it may or may not be a good template for brands and bartenders to riff on. Tune in for more.
