As folks enter their late 30s and early 40s, thoughts on life tend to slide into focus and major changes often come on the heels of these thoughts. It’s a time when some people start having kids, stop going out as much, and perhaps begin to realize that they’re not as youthful as they were in their 20s.
While this might inspire some to splurge on that shiny red convertible they’ve always wanted, many seize the feeling by making healthier food and beverage choices. It’s nothing that hasn’t been done in the past, but given that we’re in an era when social media is more a part of our lives than ever before, there’s a palpable sense that more people are choosing to be sober than ever before. But is this actually the case? Maybe not.
On this episode of the “VinePair Podcast,” Adam, Joanna, and Zach dive into the provocative notion that the sober-curious/alcohol-free movement among millennials is just a new (and overtly public) manifestation of the same panic that grips any generation entering middle age, and the focus on healthy living (likely overstated to begin with) will subside as they adjust to life after 40. Tune in for more.
