Johnnie Walker Vault unlocks ‘new era of luxury Scotch’
The Johnnie Walker Vault was unveiled this week. The new global platform was designed to bring together bespoke blends of old and rare whisky, exclusive experiences, and more under one very opulent roof.
And when they say luxury, they mean it. Prices start at £50,000, which, for context, could buy you a small yacht. Not that I’ve been yacht shopping. My yacht’s in the shop, of course*.
A Treasure Trove of Old and Rare Whisky
The Johnnie Walker Vault is located beneath Johnnie Walker Princes Street, Edinburgh. At the heart of it is master blender Dr Emma Walker (no relation to Johnnie, just a wizz with whisky).
She’s selected 500 of the brand’s rarest casks from the 10 million she has access to ageing away in Scotland. That includes some proper unicorns. Think 50-year-old stocks, ‘ghost’ casks from Port Ellen and Brora, and other legendary liquid that most of us will only ever dream of tasting.
Walker describes the Vault as a place where she can translate personal stories into whisky. That’s pretty much what I use this blog for. Which is much cooler. Right, guys? Guys?
Some of the oldest and rarest whisky in the world. Waiting for you. If you’re filthy rich, obvs.
Three Pillars of Pure Indulgence – Johnnie Walker Style
The Johnnie Walker Vault is built on three pillars:
Bespoke Blending – A handful of very wealthy individuals each year will get a private blending session with Dr Walker herself. Their one-of-a-kind whisky will be bottled in a Baccarat crystal decanter, with the recipe logged in the Vault archives so they can commission more (if the rare casks allow).
Luxury Experiences – We’re talking Michelin-starred meals, VIP travel, stays at Gleneagles, and private tours of Diageo’s invite-only whisky archives. It’s whisky on a red carpet.
Creative Collaborations – Johnnie Walker is blending more than just Scotch. Leading cultural figures will be invited to co-create with Walker, with a world-renowned couture designer kicking things off in 2025. My invitation is in the post, I’m sure.
