Bar Louie Again Files for Chapter 11

Gastropub chain Bar Louie on March 27 filed for Chapter 11 protection in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. The Addison, TX-based company, which has been shuttering several locations in recent weeks, aims to restructure its debt while continuing to operate. Its website currently lists 48 locations, down from 64 two months ago and 134 units at its peak in 2019.

Bar Louie had previously filed for bankruptcy in early 2020 and closed 38 restaurants. It emerged from Chapter 11 that June after secured lender Antares Capital LP purchased the company. Since then it had been making steady progress on a comeback — vice president of beverage and execution Ian Welby detailed several of Bar Louie’s accomplishments and plans for growth in an interview with Cheers this past January.

But like many casual dining brands, the company has been facing considerable pressure from rising costs and shifts in consumer preferences. Full service restaurant chains that have filed for bankruptcy in the past year include TGI Fridays, Red Lobster, Buca di Beppo, World of Beer and On The Border.
