Inside one lucky customer’s dream trip to Bordeaux

When one of our lucky customers won a once-in-a-lifetime wine escape to Bordeaux, we knew they were in for something special.

Lisa was the lucky winner of our exclusive competition – a fully hosted, all-expenses-paid 5-day escape for two to the stunning wine region of Bordeaux. Naturally, she brought along her husband Steve (smart move, Lisa!), and together they enjoyed a luxurious stay at the magnificent Château Magnol, right in the heart of French wine country. Lisa won this amazing trip by picking up a bottle of B&G Chablis from DrinkWell, proof that great taste really does pay off. To say we’re jealous of Lisa and Steve’s trip would be an understatement, you’ll see why….

Bordeaux was a beautiful old city steeped in history. Our guide Bruno was a real character and really knew the intricate history of Bordeaux and the relationship with England.  We had an impromptu cold beer stop half way through the tour and Bruno entertained us with funny stories.

Each day, we had breakfast – crunchy, fresh baguettes, crispy and doughy croissants, fresh fruit, cheese, and freshly brewed coffee. At 9am sharp the learning began with presentations on the Chateau, classifications of French  wines and a master class in blending by the most interesting and knowledgeable  Sommelier Omar Baroso.  We would the complete the morning activity with some time to walk around the grounds and get ready for food. each day the chef prepared an amazing  lunch and more wine and cheese. Afternoons were generally more activity based either visiting beautiful Bordeaux, another chateau. – smith haut Lafitte or walking around the wine cellar and  vineyards at Magnol.  A refresh before dinner then the whole group would meet in the drawing room or outside on the terrace  for an aperitif.  Then another sumptuous meal and carefully chosen wines pairing expertly with the delicious food and even more cheese!

the whole trip was fabulous but the opportunity to learn and taste some of the special wines Barton and Guestier had to offer was a real treat. I know we will never get that opportunity again. And the best part was enjoying these wines with experts from all over the world who quickly became friends. We learnt so much and were so grateful – memories to last a lifetime and a list of wines I now want my family and friends  to try too. All thanks to a bottle of Chablis I purchased from DrinkWell and a competition I didn’t realise I had entered!!
