The Spritz category has exploded in recent years, and a recent IWSR report claims that there’s still plenty of room on the runway for the Spritz to continue rising.
The idea of the “aperitivo hour” is taking off around the world as more drinkers gravitate toward light, sessionable beverages for mid-day imbibing. And part of what makes the Spritz so appealing for aperitivo hours is its versatility. Beyond the mandatory components of Prosecco and sparkling water, a Spritz can include Aperol, Campari, St-Germain, Cynar, or any other liqueur or amaro that one might fancy. They’re also photogenic, delivering an aura of carefree sophistication, further fueling the Spritz’s popularity as an afternoon alternative to a glass of wine or a pint of beer.
