7 Rum Day Recipes for 2025

August is National Rum Month and Aug. 16 is National Rum Day (a Saturday this year!). So now is the time to be ready with some inspired cane spirit cocktails. Here are seven we like for this year.

STK Pina Colada Old Fashioned

Course Drinks
Keyword Angostura bitters, coconut water, dark rum, pineapple liqueur

Ingredients

½ oz. Pineapple liqueur2 oz. Ten to One dark rum3 dashes Angostura bittersXL Coconut water ice cubes

Instructions

In a mixing glass, combine pineapple liqueur, rum and bitters.
Stir, then strain into Old Fashioned glass over a large coconut water ice cube.
Garnish with orange peel.

Sunset Colada

Course Drinks
Keyword Coco Lopez coconut cream, dark rum, Ginger syrup, lime, Passion fruit purée

Ingredients

1 ½ oz. Cruzan dark rum1 ½ oz. Passion fruit puree½ oz. Ginger simple syrup1 ½ oz. Coco Lopez¼ oz. Lime juice

Instructions

Add all ingredients together with ice.
Shake until the Coco Lopez is mixed with other liquids.
Serve over regular ice cubes and top up with crushed ice.
Garnish with edible orchid for decoration.

Sorrento Punch

Course Drinks
Keyword agave, Averna, lemon, Pineapple Juice, rum

Ingredients

2 oz. Bacardi 8 rum½ oz. Averna Amaro¾ oz. Lemon juice½ oz. Agave2 oz. Pineapple juice

Instructions

Combine ingredients and shake.
Pour into rocks glass with ice.
Garnish with lime wheel and fresh mint.

Rum Lemondrop

Course Drinks
Keyword lemon, limoncello, Simple syrup, white rum

Ingredients

Granulated sugar2 oz. Kōloa Kauaʻi white rum½ oz. Limoncello1 oz. Freshly squeezed lemon juice1 oz. Simple syrup

Instructions

Dip the rim of a coupe glass in water, then in granulated sugar to coat. Set aside to dry.
In a cocktail shaker, combine the rum, limoncello, lemon juice and simple syrup. Shake with ice until well chilled.
Strain into the prepared coupe glass.
Garnish with a lemon wheel.

It’s Bananas

Course Drinks
Keyword Allspice Dram, banana puree, ginger beer, lemon, rum

Ingredients

1 ½ oz. Sonrisa Platino Puerto Rican rum½ oz. Allspice dram½ oz. Banana purée½ oz. Lemon juice2 oz. Q tropical ginger beer

Instructions

Combine ingredients (except ginger beer) and shake.
Pour into rocks glass.
Top with ginger beer and stir.
Garnish with banana.

Casa de la Nueva Granada

Course Drinks
Keyword lime, mandarin juice, nispero fruit, orange liqueur, Orgeat syrup, rum, viche

Ingredients

1 ½ oz. Ron La Hechicera1 ½ oz. Dona Sofi viche a strong, sweet liquor found in Colombia1 ¼ oz. Bols liqueur/triple sec¾ oz. Níspero orgeat syrup1 fresh Mandarin juiced1 fresh Lime juiced1 ½ oz. Fresh Níspero fruit juice

Instructions

Combine ingredients and shake.
Pour into glass over ice.
Garnish with flowers and fresh mint sprig.

Rum Espresso Martini

Course Drinks
Keyword coconut syrup, espresso, Kahlua, rum

Ingredients

1 ½ oz. Don Q Reserva 7 rum1 oz Espresso shot½ oz. Kahlúa½ oz. Toasted coconut syrup*

Instructions

Shake all the ingredients vigorously.
Double strain into a cocktail glass.
Garnish with coffee beans.
Flavor with sugar to taste.

Notes

*For Toasted coconut syrup: Toast 1 cup Shredded coconut in a pan on low heat until golden brown, being careful not to burn it. Add toasted coconut to a saucepan with 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water, and bring to boil, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat, cool, and fine strain into an airtight container. Store in the fridge for up to 2 months.
