The VinePair Podcast: Can Wine Find a Home at Sports Bars?

Two weeks ago, canned wine brand Archer Roose announced that it is entering a partnership with Buffalo Wild Wings and will stock its products at over 1,200 locations nationwide. Although wine and sports bars may seem like an unlikely pairing, perhaps there is some untapped potential here.

That said, bringing wine into sports bar beverage programs will likely not be as straightforward as adopting by-the-glass pours. Need we remind you of the increased risk of glass breakage and bottles going bad on slow nights? There’s also a decent chance that canned wine won’t work, either, as cans typically contain far more than a standard serving of wine and can go from chilled to lukewarm in a short time. Regardless, it’s a marriage of worlds that’s long overdue, but its execution will require some careful planning and consideration.

On this episode of the “VinePair Podcast,” Adam, Joanna, and Zach respond to the recent news about the Archer Roose and Buffalo Wild Wings partnership, and then discuss the mostly unexplored potential for wine at sports bars. Given that wine as a category needs to do more to be where people are drinking, and that sports bars remain a reliably successful business model, how can wine brands of various stripes establish a presence at this kind of bar? And is there room for higher-end wines at the right sports bars? Tune in for more.
