Maryland-based rye distillery Sagamore Spirit just released their first High Rye Straight Bourbon Whiskey, the newest expression in its Reserve Series. This release marks the first time Sagamore has crafted a bourbon-style whiskey.
This Maryland-made high rye straight bourbon whiskey features a mash bill of 60% corn, 25% rye and 15% malted rye, according to the distillery, aged for six years in new charred American white oak barrels and bottled at 59% ABV. On the nose, it offers aromas of cornbread, apricots, walnuts, ginger-spiced vanilla and warm tobacco. On the palate, it boasts notes of caramel and turbinado sugar combined with orchard fruit and ground cinnamon followed by a lingering bitter espresso and rye spice finish.
“This High Rye Straight Bourbon is something we’ve been eager to share — a whiskey crafted for those who enjoy both bourbon and rye flavors that makes for a memorable pour,” Ryan Norwood, master distiller at Sagamore Spirit, said in a news release. “We’re thrilled to share this limited release with whiskey fans who appreciate something truly distinctive.”
The limited Sagamore Spirit High Rye Straight Bourbon Whiskey is now available in Maryland at an SRP of $49 and can be purchased either at the Sagamore Spirit’s distillery in Baltimore or select premium retailers throughout Baltimore, according to the distillery.
