Jäger, Beyond the Shot

Jägermeister is the liqueur everyone loves to hate. Blame the Jägerbomb—or college, in general. But the German amaro’s fortunes have improved. Over the last several years, “Jäger,” as it’s better known, has graduated to find its place in a host of grown-up cocktails. While some iterations elevate the herbal liqueur, ushering it into established formulas like the Margarita or Old-Fashioned, others fully embrace its bro-ey, dare shot reputation. See, for example, the Death Flip (“You don’t wanna meet this cocktail in a dark alley”) and the Loser (“Add some beef broth for beef-cake-y-ness [and] Jägermeister, because, why not”).
