It’s been almost six months since a cross section of key industry members met in Annapolis at our ACTIVATE session during the Beverage Alcohol Retailers Conference. The environment seemed urgent then, and it is even more so now.
In order to navigate tough spots like the one where we presently find ourselves, a 3-tier commitment is paramount to delivering what consumers want. Instead of pushing product down the supply chain, concepts of optimized product assortment and profitable space planning by store, chain and DMA should enter our collective vernacular.
Why? Custom store sets and selections driven by local consumer demand will smooth out inventories and pull products more efficiently through the system. How will we do this? By adopting holistic data-driven decision making throughout the pipeline by sharing information, knowledge, research and technology from brand to wholesaler to retailer/operator and back again – guided by consumer insights.
