The VinePair Podcast: Can Wine Bars Handle Bar Crawls, and the Latest From the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection

The energy of a bar crawl can be really beneficial for cocktail bars. As drinkers crawl through a neighborhood, they feed off recommendations from bartenders or others seated at the bar for where to go next. At each spot, these drinkers can try something new and unique — something that isn’t replicated at a different bar right down the street. But wine bars don’t really have this same energy about them. The wines are fairly similar across the board, and you often need a reservation, meaning you can’t pop in randomly. More often than not, there’s also a full food menu, making the “wine bar” more of a restaurant. And restaurants aren’t conducive to bar crawls.

Today on the “VinePair Podcast,” Adam, Joanna, and Zach recap the Next Wave Awards party, Zach’s epic NYC bar crawl, and discuss why it is that wine bars just don’t seem suited to the same kind of “pop in, pop out” experience. Then, spirits editor Aaron Goldfarb joins to discuss the latest releases from the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection. Tune in for more.
