How to Make Greek Chicken

This chicken recipe is so easy to make and is ready in less than an hour!

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.

Place chicken breasts in a 9” x 13” baking dish. Pierce each chicken breast multiple times with a fork (on the top and bottom side of each chicken breast). Set aside.

In a small bowl, whisk together olive oil, lemon juice, lemon zest, garlic, oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir well to mix.

Pour the lemon mixture over the chicken breasts. Use a spoon to scoop some mixture on the tops of each chicken breast.

Place in the oven to bake for 30 to 35 minutes. Chicken is done once the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees F. Use an instant-read thermometer to check the temperature of the meat. Serve hot for best results.

Optional: Sprinkle fresh parsley over chicken breasts.

Note: Always check the thickest chicken breast first by inserting the meat thermometer into the thickest part of the breast meat.

FAQs

How do I store leftover Greek Chicken?

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Can I substitute bottled lemon juice instead of fresh lemons?

I don’t recommend it, especially because you also need lemon zest in this recipe for the right flavor. Fresh lemons are an important part of this recipe!

Does the chicken need to marinate in the sauce before baking?

You can marinate the chicken, but it’s not necessary for this recipe. If you want to marinate the chicken ahead of time, place all ingredients (except parsley) into a large sealable food storage bag and keep it in the fridge until ready to bake (no longer than overnight). Pour all ingredients into the baking dish when ready to bake.

Can I make this Greek Chicken recipe with chicken thighs?

Yes, you can, or even use a combination of chicken pieces! Just make sure you follow the same guidelines to fully cook your chicken!

Can I reuse the sauce that the chicken is baking in?

The baked sauce is certainly great to spoon over the baked chicken, but I wouldn’t recommend reusing it for another recipe. Remember, DON’T reuse or eat any remaining marinade that has been used but not baked, as the raw chicken leaves bacteria in the raw chicken marinade.

What do I serve with this Greek chicken?

This Greek chicken recipe pairs nicely with a Greek salad and baked lemon potatoes sprinkled with feta cheese (or my favorite, tzatziki sauce!)
Then you can have some Baklava for dessert!
