Fun to make. These adorable reindeer Rice Krispie Treats are the perfect things to get you into the spirit of the season.
Easy and quick. These no-bake treats are simple but light-hearted. They’re so easy to make, you can have your kids help!
A classic recipe with a twist. These classic treats get all dressed up for holiday fun, making them perfect for sharing with friends and family!
Here are the simple ingredients you need to make Rice Krispie Reindeer Treats:
Salted butter – Margarine or vegan butter sticks will also work if you have dietary restrictions.
Mini marshmallows – Larger marshmallows also work, but take longer to melt.
Vanilla extract – This is optional, but adds great flavor. Consider also adding different flavors; just make sure they don’t clash with the chocolate cereal.
Coco Rice Krispies cereal – Any brand of chocolate crispy rice cereal will work.
White cookie icing – You can use cake icing, but it takes longer to set and doesn’t get as hard for a solid finish.
Red M&Ms – Any small red candy will work. You could also use a red Skittle or red cinnamon candies.
Candy eyes – I used large candy eyes, but any size works as long as they fit on your reindeer.
Mini twist pretzels
First, we’ll use the classic recipe to make the chocolate Rice Krispie Treats.
Prepare your pan. Butter a 9×13-inch baking dish (or use cooking spray) and set it aside.
Melt the butter. Add the butter to a large pot (large saucepan) and melt it over low heat.
Stir in the marshmallows and vanilla. Stir in the marshmallows and vanilla, stirring until everything is well combined. Continuously stir for an additional 2 minutes after the marshmallows are melted and turn the heat off.
Add the cereal. Add the cereal to the marshmallow mixture and toss to coat.
Transfer to the pan and cool. Transfer the mixture into the prepared pan and, using a buttered spatula or waxed paper, press the mixture, packing it to an even layer into the pan, and allow it to cool for at least 1 hour.
It’s so easy to turn these treats into little reindeer! Here’s how to do it:
Decorate. Once cooled, cut the treats into rectangles, place them on a sheet of parchment paper or wax paper, and use the cookie icing to attach the candy eyes, a red M&M for the red nose, and one pretzel on either side of the top for the antlers.
Set and serve. Let the treats sit for 5 minutes to allow the icing to harden before serving! They are the perfect holiday treat!
I love that you can use different flavors to make these Rice Krispie treats fresh and new every time you make them. Here are some of my favorite ways to add a little something extra without a lot of effort.
Instead of using red M&Ms, you could use brown M&Ms with only 1 red M&M to make the whole team of Santa’s reindeer.
You can also press the soft Rice Krispies into a round pie pan and cut them into triangles instead of rectangles. Make them with the point end down as the nose.
For a seasonal twist, you can add a dash of peppermint extract.
Use chocolate-covered pretzels for the pretzel antlers.
Swap the M&M for a cinnamon candy for a little extra fun.
If you have leftover Rice Krispies Rudolphs, you can keep them stored in an airtight container or resealable bag for about a week.
In a pinch, the store-bought cereal treats work great and will save you some time, but they will be white in color and not brown.
You can freeze the treats (not decorated) after you make them. Just wrap them in plastic wrap before sliding them into a resealable plastic bag. Thaw to room temperature before cutting and decorating. They’ll last about 3 months in the freezer.
