Burg will assume the role of strategic advisor to Thomas Greenlee, Chief Financial Officer. This includes strategic support for the company’s 3PL subsidiary Ankaa Global Logistics, as well as emerging technology deployments, and future distribution center real estate strategies. He will also guide the transition of supply chain and operations leadership to the next generation, according to the company.

“Bobby has built a world-class supply chain function that is not just industry-leading, but one to be admired by any business,” said Wayne E. Chaplin, President and CEO, in a news release. “We are grateful for Bobby’s dedication, vision, and expertise, and we look forward to his continued contributions over the years as a trusted advisor as we continue to innovate in this critical area of our enterprise.”

Pivotal Leadership Throughout the Years

Bobby Burg has been a key architect of the company’s technology and supply chain evolution since joining Southern Glazer’s through the acquisition of his family’s South Carolina distributorship in 1993. Over his three‑decade tenure, he held pivotal leadership roles, including CIO and Senior Vice President of Supply Chain Strategy, according to the company. Burg has also helped establish top-notch business continuity, safety and environmental sustainability capabilities for the company, while most recently guiding significant implementations in technology, automation and new supply chain service offerings for suppliers and customers.

“Bobby has made a lasting mark on Southern Glazer’s and I’m confident his influence will continue in this new advisory role,” commented Lee Hager, President Internal Operations, Office of the President, in the release. “His leadership, commitment to creating a positive workplace culture for his teams, and his unwavering pursuit of continuous improvement is a model for future leaders at our Company.”

With this transition, Drew Vermilion, Senior Vice President, Supply Chain Strategy, and Ron Flanary, Senior Vice President, National Operations, will report directly to Greenlee, according to the company.

“I’m honored to be able to continue supporting the talented supply chain and operations strategies in this new capacity,” added Burg. “Our supply chain leaders are well-equipped to ensure seamless continuity, drive innovation, through adoption of emerging technologies, and uphold the high standards Southern Glazer’s suppliers and customers have come to expect from Southern Glazer’s. I have been blessed to work for a family-owned company, led by Wayne Chaplin and the Chaplin family, who have provided me and many of our leadership team the opportunity to grow and contribute.”
