Why You’ll Love Hot Chocolate Cool Whip Dip

This no-bake dessert dip is so easy to make, and everyone loves it! I much prefer easy desserts for potlucks and such. That’s why I always make this when I’m asked to bring something to holiday parties.

This sweet treat is fun for kids! Sprinkle mini marshmallows and colored sprinkles on top for a cute and festive presentation.

You can easily make this yummy dip ahead of time. Get ahead of the holiday rush and make this hot cocoa dip 4-5 days in advance. Just don’t add any toppings until you’re ready to serve it.

You only need a handful of simple ingredients to make this Hot Chocolate Cheesecake Dip:

Cream cheese, room temperature

Don’t like Cool Whip? Use my Stabilized Whipped Cream recipe since it will make the exact amount you’ll need!

Mini Marshmallows

(optional) Red and Green Sprinkles

Please review the recipe card at the bottom of the post for the detailed ingredient amounts.

How to make Hot Cocoa Dip with Cream Cheese

This recipe works best with softened cream cheese, so make sure to set yours out ahead of time.

Using a hand mixer or a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and cocoa powder together in a large bowl until smooth and creamy.

Fold in the Cool Whip or Stabilized Whipped Cream with a silicone spatula.

Transfer the dip to a serving bowl and place mini marshmallows and holiday sprinkles on top of the dip before serving. Enjoy!

It really doesn’t get much easier than that!

Recipe Variations

Use 1-2 hot chocolate packets instead of cocoa powder for a milder, sweeter flavor, and decrease the amount of powdered sugar to 1/4 cup.

Not a Cool Whip fan? Try my homemade Stabilized Whipped Cream recipe instead.

Add crushed candy canes and a half teaspoon of pure peppermint extract for a peppermint hot cocoa dip.

Add white chocolate chips to make the sweet dip even richer!

One of my favorite things to do is drizzle salted caramel sauce across the top for a salted caramel hot cocoa dip.

FAQS

What should I serve with Hot Chocolate Dip?

There are so many great dipper options for this hot cocoa dip recipe. These are some of my favorite dippers:

Graham crackers

Vanilla Wafers

Golden Oreos

Butter or shortbread cookies

Chocolate chip cookies

Pretzels

Banana slices

Fresh fruit like strawberries or apples

Animal Crackers

Cubes of Pound Cake

And more!

How do I store leftover Cocoa Cream Cheese Dip?

Store the leftover dip in the fridge covered tightly with plastic wrap or in an airtight container for 4-5 days. The dip does firm up in the fridge, so if you want to serve it again later, let it thaw a bit by letting it sit at room temperature and re-stir before serving.

Can I make this dip ahead of time?

Yes. This delicious hot chocolate dip stores well in the fridge for up to 4-5 days, so feel free to make it 4-5 days in advance. Just be sure not to add the toppings until serving it, as marshmallows can get a weird texture after sitting in the dip in the fridge for a few days.
