The VinePair Podcast: White Wine Is on the Rise

In terms of prestige, still white wines have long lived in the shadow of silky reds, but the industry at large has been on a decades-long journey to shake up that narrative. And it’s finally starting to take shape.

The campaign, if you will, kicked off in tandem with the rally to convince American drinkers that incredible wines are being made all over the country, and not just in Napa. Now, the drinking community has expanded its horizons and realized that there’s more to domestic wine than big, bold Napa Cab. The result? Well, American white wines are on the rise.

On this episode of the “VinePair Podcast,” Adam, Joanna, and Zach are joined by VinePair Next Wave Award Winemaker of the Year Dan Petroski of Massican to discuss his journey in wine and why white wine is ascendant at a time when wine in general is struggling. They chat about how white wine better meets drinkers where they are, why in many cases it fits better with current food trends, and why it doesn’t come with all the baggage that certain red wines do. Tune in for more.
