Behind the Beverage: The L’Or Bleu at the Ritz Paris

The Ritz Paris hotel drew holiday inspiration from Surrealism, which this year celebrates its centenary. Because an audacious movement deserves an audacious creation, the Ritz Bar presents L’Or Bleu, an original cocktail composed by head barman Romain de Courcy.

Inspired by the famous poem by Surrealist pioneer Paul Éluard, this cocktail evokes the fascinating paradox of the senses and of color. Using the author’s famous line “the Earth is blue like an orange,” L’Or Bleu plays subtly with flavors and extends an original, whimsical invitation to dream.

This new creation elevates lavender, which is also known as “blue gold from Provence” and is prized for its power to soothe. Paired with vodka, rosemary and notes of bergamot, this fresh and aromatic composition reveals a balance that is pleasant with unexpected overtones.
