Even 15 years ago when craft breweries were popping up like daisies across the United States, some argued that the industry had telltale symptoms of a bubble.

While anyone who understands economic bubbles knows the craft beer industry isn’t set up for an impending nosedive, there is a kernel of truth there: Whenever there’s tremendous growth in a given industry, at some point, there’s going to be a pullback. What we’ve witnessed over the past few years is craft beer pulling back. However, when we look at the hard data, the overall decline in sales and increase in brewery closures is rather insignificant in the grand scheme of things — despite what some headlines suggest.
