Baking with Cereal

The breakfast of champions becomes the sweet secret ingredient in these four ingenious recipes.

THE SECRETS BEHIND YOUR CEREAL

KELLOGG’S® APPLE JACKS® CEREAL

Made by Kellogg’s, Apple Jacks was first introduced to the United States as Apple O’s in 1965. The current name, Apple Jacks, was the result of advertisers looking to change the name in 1971. Originally, Apple Jacks contained only orange-colored cereal Os; it wasn’t until 1998 that the green Os were incorporated into the mix. Interestingly, Apple Jacks Cereal was the brainchild of an MIT student, William Thilly, who was hired by Kellogg’s as a research assistant. As a reward for his work at the company, William was invited to create a product, and thus, Apple Jacks Cereal was born.

GENERAL MILLS CINNAMON TOAST CRUNCH CEREAL

This cereal debuted in 1984 with the aim of replicating the flavor of cinnamon-sugar toast. The cereal’s initial mascot, Chef Wendell, started appearing in commercials in 1987, but he was ultimately replaced in 2010 with cartoon squares of the actual cereal, known as “The Crazy Squares.” Advertised as the cereal with “The Taste You Can See,” each square has a unique pattern of cinnamon-sugar swirls, which served as the inspiration for our Cinnamon Swirl Bundt.

Cinnamon Swirl Bundt

Rich vanilla and cinnamon batters swirl together to create this showstopping Bundt. With squares of a beloved cinnamon-sugar cereal crushed and mixed into both batters and a Creamy Milk Glaze drizzled over the top, we won’t blame you if this cake becomes both a breakfast and a dessert staple.

Apple-Cinnamon Cereal Poke Cake

If slurping up the last of the cereal milk after enjoying a big bowl of your favorite apple-and-cinnamon-flavored orange and green Os was a highlight of your morning growing up, this recipe is for you. Incorporating Apple Jacks into every element, whether finely crushed or soaked to make cereal milk, this cake is bursting with nostalgic flavor in its moist, lightly spiced cake layer, three-milk soak, and Apple-Cinnamon Cereal Whipped Topping.

White Chocolate-Fruity Cereal Cookies

These whimsically bright and fruity White Chocolate-Fruity Cereal Cookies are the ultimate combination of tender, chewy cookie dough, multicolored fruity cereal, sweet white chocolate chunks, and a touch of cardamom to add a zesty, almost citrusy kick. The best accompaniment to this cookie? A cool glass of milk, of course!

Honey Graham Cereal Chocolate Pie

Buttery and crisp Golden Grahams Cereal crumb crust meets rich chocolate filling in this irresistibly cool and creamy Honey Graham Cereal Chocolate Pie. It’s like your classic graham cracker crust taken up a couple notches with stronger notes of honey and brown sugar. Bittersweet chocolate in the filling balances the sweetness of the crust, and a crown of Whipped Chocolate Topping and crushed squares of cereal add just the right amount of texture to the final bites.
