Gin Bothy plans to make whisky this year.
The Angus-based brand has announced plans for a brand-new distillery in Glen Prosen, built on the bones of a 19th-century whisky smuggling route.
The new site – a former sporting estate now owned by Forestry and Land Scotland – will be transformed into a sustainable distillery and immersive visitor experience.
It’ll be open by appointment only, ensuring fewer buses and more bespoke drams. The visitor centre will open its doors in July.
Production is due to kick off in August with an initial run of 300 casks.
How the distillery will look
Sustainable by design: Powered by hydroelectricity and built using repurposed materials, the distillery aims to blend tradition with low-impact innovation
Architectural integrity: Organic Architects are keeping the original look of the steading, making just enough tweaks to fit a fully functioning distillery without ruining the site’s charm.
Community-first approach: Gin Bothy founder Kim Cameron is keen to make the new venture a local asset, working with nearby businesses and creating jobs in the area.
