The VinePair Podcast: Tariffs Cause More Chaos for the Drinks Biz

As the back-and-forth over the Trump administration’s proposed tariffs continues to escalate, the U.S. beverage industry anxiously waits for the next bit of bad news to unfold. Despite President Trump calling his recent “Liberation Day” speech America’s “declaration of economic independence,” it didn’t make industry pros feel any more confident about the future of the situation.

The instability and lack of coherent plans likely spell trouble for the beverage industry at large. After all, nobody’s going to make major business moves when so much is up in the air. And while producers are certainly going to hurt in the coming months, so are consumers. As they watch their retirement funds crater and the stock market nosedive, they’re going to play it safe. That means not buying luxuries like fancy cars, TVs, designer clothes, and premium wines or spirits.

On this episode of the “VinePair Podcast,” Joanna and Zach are joined by VinePair contributing editor Dave Infante to discuss the many ways in which the United States’ trade policy and whiplash tariff protocols are affecting and damaging the drinks industry. Tune in for more, and don’t forget to apply to VinePair’s Best New Bartender competition here!
