The Only Thing Added Is 3 Generations of Expertise: The Crafting of Tequila El Mexicano [Infographic]

Nestled in the highlands of Jalisco in Arandas, Mexico, a grandeur establishment with open archways invites the world in. Hacienda El Mexicano, built in the hacienda style traditional to Mexican estates, features terracotta walls colored by paint and red clay soil. Every aspect of Hacienda El Mexicano, including the El Mexicano tequila produced under NOM 1588, was crafted entirely by Mexican artisans on-site.

Hacienda El Mexicano is more than a distillery; it’s a destination for visitors looking to observe tequila craftsmanship in action. The estate is also home to the Bañuelos family, owners and operators of Tequila El Mexicano.

El Mexicano and the namesake Hacienda embody the best of tradition and modernity. Showcasing the best of both worlds, the Hacienda features refreshed traditional architecture with expansive archways, while the tequila brand represents a new generation updating the Bañuelos family’s rich history.

Over 50 years ago, in 1973, Don Félix Bañuelos and his son León Bañuelos started a small tequila distillery with their family friends. The result, Tequila CAZADORES, earned numerous awards and accolades. After the family sold Tequila CAZADORES, Léon collaborated with the next generation —  his four children — to launch El Mexicano and continue their family legacy.

In a landscape full of celebrity-backed tequilas, El Mexicano stands out for its authenticity, genuine family heritage, and high production standards. To this day, Léon Sr. lives on the estate and oversees the production process from start to finish. El Mexicano remains 100 percent owned and operated by the Bañuelos family.

Additive-free El Mexicano holds nothing but pure agave and three generations of tequila-making excellence. Each one also features the designation NOM 1588. A code of authenticity, Normal Oficial Mexicana indicates the quality of the family distillery and its spirits.

Here’s how El Mexicano maintains its authentic Mexican spirit and craftsmanship throughout the production process. Bienvenidos a Hacienda El Mexicano!
