Why We Made These Drink Recipe Cards
How to Use Cocktail Flashcards
Remember the good ol’ days of high school or college, cramming for exams with flashcards? Well, we’ve taken that tried-and-true study method and given it a boozy makeover.
Based on personal experience, countless conversations with bartenders, and witnessing more than one newbie frantically Google popular cocktail recipes mid-shift, we’ve created the study tool we think will truly help: Cocktail Recipe Flashcards!
These aren’t just any flashcards – they’re bartending cheat sheets that will keep you from confusing Manhattans with Old Fashioneds. (Yes, they are different.) Each card in our deck features one classic cocktail with everything you need to know:
Clear, precise ingredient measurements
The correct mixing method
A visual ingredient diagram that makes recipes stick in your memory
No long-winded history lessons or obscure variations – just the essential specs that will save you when someone orders a Mai Tai and you draw a blank.
This project was born from real-world pain points based on Chris’ and Rob’s personal experience.
Bartenders tend to be visual and tactile learners. It’s so helpful to have tools designed for the way you actually work – especially when three people are shouting orders at us and the ticket machine won’t stop printing.
So we conceived of this simple, visually-convenient recipe collection that will help you truly memorize and remember 50 top mixed drinks.
We didn’t just throw together a random assortment of trendy drinks. Rob, our Head of Education (and cocktail encyclopedia in human form), carefully selected 50 essential classic cocktails that form the backbone of modern bartending.
From the non-negotiable basics (Martini, Margarita, Lemon Drop) to the craft cocktail renaissance standards (Aviation, Manhattan, Sidecar), these cards cover the classic cocktail recipes that will make up about 90% of your orders at any quality cocktail bar.
Features:
50 premium double-sided recipe cards
Classic cocktails curated by Rob, our Head of Education
Diagrams of the cocktails with ingredients
Small enough size for recipe box, backpack, or purse– Take them on the go!
If you’ve ever found yourself mid-shake thinking “Wait, was that ¾ or ½ ounce of lime?”, these cards have your name all over them. They’re perfect for:
Bar backs who want to take the next step in their careers
The bartender who just landed their first real cocktail gig
Home mixologists wanting to level up their favorite cocktail recipes game
Any bartender who needs a little refresher
Make sure you have these delicious recipes down. Nothing says “hire me” like confidently rattling off perfect specs without hesitation.
Here are some practical ways to use them:
You and your coworkers quiz each other during off-hours.
Sort them by base spirit for focused study sessions.
Challenge yourself with random draws and then make that drink.
Keep difficult recipes handy for quick reference.
My personal favorite method: the “ten-card drill” – randomly select ten cards and make each drink from memory. Trust me, do this a few times, and those recipes will be locked in your brain forever.
Whether you’re stressing about your first shift, preparing for a mixology certification, or just want to mix drinks at home without constantly checking your phone, these cards will transform your cocktail knowledge.
(Psssst: They also make cool gifts for any other aspiring mixologists in your life!)
Never again be the bartender that has to ask “Was that sweet or dry vermouth?”
