Tequila Ocho Releases Barrel Proof Reposado

Tequila Ocho, which introduced refreshed packaging last year, has introduced a new, barrel proof reposado tequila.

The latest high-proof expression from Master Tequilero Carlos Camarena will hit store shelves and back bars in two waves beginning this summer and again in the holidays. It will retail for a suggested shelf price of $84.99 per 750-ml. bottle.

This single-field tequila was made with overripe agaves from Rancho Las Raíces, located ten minutes east of Ocho’s home place, Tequilera Los Alambiques. The juice rests in used American whiskey barrels up to six months — three times as long as Ocho’s core Reposado expression. The distillery team utilizes non-chill filtration, and bottles the liquid at a strength of 50.5% ABV.

The result is a nose with light wood notes, rosemary, rose, lavender, fresh jalapeño, lemon tea and orange peel, according to the distillery. The palate, dry and a slightly salty, brings agave, baking spices, dark chocolate, peach, caramel and white pepper.

“The use of overmature agaves from rancho Las Raices, plus the extra time in barrel and bottling this tequila at a high proof, creates the perfect combination for a very well balanced tequila that should be enjoyed neat in a flute glass,” says Camarena.

3,095 cases will roll into the U.S. in 2025.
