Tequila Review: Lalo High Proof Blanco 2025

Lalo High Proof Blanco 2025 was bottled at 100 proof with no water added after distillation. This is Lalo’s first tequila made using the “distilled to proof” method, according to the company. It’s available now across 41 states in limited quantities for a suggested retail price of $74.99 for a 750-ml. bottle.

Nose

Big agave and fresh vegetal notes for days. Bright and earthy, very well balanced.

Palate

Again, big bold agave balanced by a lively earthiness and white spice. A touch of minerality adds roundness, a hallmark of this impeccably produced brand. The huge mouthfeel coats your palate with wonderful natural tequila flavors. Easy drinking for the higher proof.

Finish

Nice heat lingering on the palate as the fruit and white spice fade away. Just the right amount of spice.

Upshot

I have been a fan of Lalo since first meeting its founders at a famously raucous industry dinner in Austin many years ago. Lalo was one of those products that I knew from the first sip — and from the first time hearing the founders’ story — that it would be a winner. Lalo is no-nonsense, delicious juice. I was not surprised at all when Tito’s purchased a majority stake in the brand recently, a wise investment by the vodka giant. Honestly, I had joked the week before, with no prior knowledge, that the two Austin brands should link up, as Tito’s and Lalo have such similar visions. Which is all a long way to say that I love the Lalo High Proof Blanco 2025. Bold, balanced, delicious, easy drinking. As always with Lalo, the star of the show is the agave. This is a tequila fan’s tequila, a bottle for people who know a good blanco when they sip one. Pick this up if you see it.
