Wine 101: Heitz Cellar

This episode of “Wine 101” is sponsored by Rioja. The quality of Rioja comes through in every bottle and no matter what kind of wine you like to drink, there’s something amazing from this region for you. Whether it’s a young vibrant Joven, a fruit driven Crianza or a complex Reserva or Gran Reseva, every bottle provides an elevated sip and embraces the past, the present, and the future.

Heitz Cellar is yet another iconic Napa Valley winery. Established in 1961 by winemaker Joe Heitz and his wife Alice, Heitz Cellar released the first vintage of its flagship Cabernet Sauvignon. Five years after its founding, though, is when Heitz Cellar really made a name for itself. In 1966, the winery released Martha’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, which exclusively featured fruit grown on one singular vineyard plot. At one time, it was considered one of the best Cabernet Sauvignons on the planet.

Today on the “Wine 101” podcast, Keith dives into the story of Heitz Cellar Martha’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, the first vineyard-designated American Cabernet. Tune in for more.
