Sitting roughly 5,000 feet above sea level are the Mayacamas Mountains, which serve as somewhat of a border between California’s Napa and Sonoma Counties. As one moves south down that mountain range, there is a mountain called Mount Veeder, and it’s right there where one of the most beautiful Cabernet Sauvignons in Napa Valley is made. In fact, it’s the only wine VinePair has ever awarded a 99-point score. It is, of course, Mayacamas Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon.
To understand Mayacamas Cabernet, and Mayacamas Vineyards as a whole, one must first understand Bob Travers and his traditional approach to winemaking. Today on the “Wine 101” podcast, Keith dives into the history of Mayacamas to share the store behind one of the most iconic wineries in the U.S. Tune in for more.
