Jack Daniel’s has announced the release of Special Release Small Batch Rye, a series of five batches of barrel-proof Tennessee rye whiskey sourced from Coy Hill, Boiler Hill and Fire Brigade Fields barrelhouses in Lynchburg, TN.
The release includes 129 barrels with entry dates between February 2016 and August 2017. The barrels matured for an average of 10 years and were bottled at proof points ranging from 142.7 to 146.1 in 375-ml. bottles.
Two batches were produced from Coy Hill, while three batches were sourced from Boiler Hill and Fire Brigade Fields.
Jack Daniel’s Master Distiller Chris Fletcher and his team selected barrels identified for high proof and flavor. “I believe our Tennessee Rye Whiskey recipe is among the most exciting innovations to come out of the Jack Daniel Distillery in the past two decades,” Fletcher says. “In recent years, we began to identify barrels at some of our hidden gem barrelhouses that were simply too low-yielding for other bottlings like Bonded Rye and Single Barrel Rye, but had the potential to produce high character whiskey. This small batch release truly showcases how place and time can create intense, bold flavor that is unmistakably Jack.”
The whiskey uses a mash bill of 70% rye, 18% corn and 12% malted barley. It is charcoal filtered before maturing in new oak barrels.
Jack Daniel’s Special Release Small Batch Rye will be available in limited quantities beginning this month for $64.99. The release hits shelves exclusively at the White Rabbit Bottle Shop at the Jack Daniel Distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee.
