DISCUS Launches ‘Spirit Forward’ Campaign for America’s 250th

The Distilled Spirits Council of the United States has announced the launch of Spirit Forward, a multi-channel campaign tied to the 250th anniversary of the U.S.

The group introduced the campaign on Patriots’ Day, which marks the start of the American Revolutionary War.

Spirit Forward focuses on the role of distilled spirits in American history and their presence in hospitality and retail. The campaign includes digital and social media outreach aimed at adult consumers, media and policy makers.

“Long before America had a constitution, it had distilleries and taverns, places where people gathered, exchanged ideas and found fellowship,” says DISCUS President and CEO Chris Swonger. “Our Spirit Forward campaign is about honoring the spirits industry’s past and toasting to its future. This is a celebration of a unique and vibrant industry that, for more than two and a half centuries, has continued to evolve, innovate and bring people together.”

The campaign launched with a video filmed at the Water Wheel Tavern in Doylestown. The video presents a split-screen format that pairs Revolutionary-era reenactors with modern hospitality workers and consumers.

Additional campaign elements include a website with a timeline of the spirits industry, historical recipes such as Fish House Punch and Martha Washington’s Rum Punch and a feature on George Washington’s Distillery at Mount Vernon. The site also includes a “Destination Distillery” section that highlights distilleries across the United States.

DISCUS said the campaign connects early industry history with current market activity and future growth.
