Altamar Brands Launches Probitas Green Label Blended Rum

Probitas has expanded its rum portfolio with the launch of Probitas Green Label Blended Rum, a new 57% ABV (114 proof) expression.

It’s now available throughout the U.S. and online with a suggested retail price of $34.99 per 750-ml. bottle.

Like the original Probitas White Rum, Green Label combines rums from Barbados-based Foursquare Rum Distillery and Jamaica’s Hampden Estate. The new expression features a blend of four rum components selected and blended by Foursquare Master Distiller and Master Blender Richard Seale.

The blend includes unaged double-retort pot still rum from Hampden Estate in Jamaica along with unaged twin-column Coffey still rum, unaged double-retort pot still rum and two-year-aged double-retort pot still rum from Foursquare Rum Distillery in Barbados. The rum also contains caramel created at Foursquare through the heating of sugar. According to the company, the process adds color without adding sweetness. Probitas Green Label contains no added sugar or neutral spirit, and was distilled, matured, blended and bottled entirely in the Caribbean.

The company positions Green Label as a higher-proof rum designed for cocktail applications, including traditional rum drinks and tropical cocktails.

According to company tasting notes, the aroma features figs, caramel, brown butter, vanilla, pineapple, orange peel, coconut and banana. The palate includes notes of brown sugar and caramelized pineapple followed by a citrus-forward finish.

Bartenders have begun incorporating the new expression into a range of cocktail programs.

“The newest release from Probitas has somehow managed to fill an unexpected gap in every rum bar’s backbar,” says Joe Mele of Coastal Kitchen & Daiquiri Bar in Bay Shore, New York. “Probitas Green Label is an incredibly flavor packed pure expression of Barbados and Jamaica. The higher proof and rich molasses notes allow for it to hold its own in place of whiskey in classics like an old fashioned and sazerac, while still staying light enough on its feet to put forth incredible daiquiris. Mix this into your secret mai-tai specs, your house rum blends, and anywhere else you can. Outstanding.”

“I love mixing up cocktails with Probitas Green Label because it’s an incredibly versatile rum with a depth of flavor that shines on its own in a simple Daiquiri, but also in cocktails with big, bold flavors like a Negroni or a Corn ‘n’ Oil,” says Pepper Stashek of Bar Kabawa in New York City.

Green Label joins the Probitas lineup as a higher-proof extension of the brand, which has gained recognition among bartenders and consumers for its use in cocktails. The new expression is available nationally through retail and online channels.
