High West Releases A Midwinter Night’s Dram Act 14

High West Distillery has released the 14th annual edition of A Midwinter Night’s Dram, a limited-release rye whiskey marking the brand’s 20th anniversary.

A Midwinter Night’s Dram Act 14 has a suggested retail price of $124.99 per 750-ml. bottle. It is available nationwide in limited quantities beginning October 5.

The expression uses a blend of straight rye whiskeys aged between four and 10 years. High West traditionally finishes A Midwinter Night’s Dram in Ruby and Tawny Port barrels. For Act 14, the distillery added Amontillado, Oloroso and PX Sherry barrel finishes to the program.

The blend includes whiskey from three mash bills: 95% rye and 5% barley malt from MGP, 80% rye and 20% malted rye from High West Distillery and 64% rye, 30% corn and 6% malted barley from Barton 1792 Distillery.

High West does not chill filter the whiskey and does not add flavoring. Act 14 comes bottled at 98.6 proof.

The company describes the flavor profile as including wild strawberry, blackberry preserves and fig, followed by blood orange, cherry fruit leather, cinnamon-dusted plum crumble and apricot scone. The finish includes notes of jam thumbprint cookie and spiced chai.
