Lately, I’ve been feeling trapped.  Let me out!!!!  Out of my kitchen, out of my house, just out – anywhere!  I used to demand international travel to satisfy my wanderlust.  Now a visit outside of my zip code sounds like a wild ride.  I know I’m not alone.

Exploring the Crossroads District

We’re all bored of our routines, and the hubs and I have been looking for anything to break up the monotony.  So this week, on the one day the sun came out for a wee bit, we pulled the kids out of virtual school and hit the road. They were thrilled… a car ride?!?!  Our adventure took us all the way to Camp North End just outside of downtown/uptown Charlotte.  It was a whole fifteen minutes from my South Charlotte home, but it felt like a whole new world.  One much hipper than the one I’m used to.

About Camp North End Charlotte

Open since 2017, I am ashamed that until this week, I hadn’t made the visit.  And while the last year or so has been a wash, when it comes to visiting Camp North End Charlotte there should have been an exception.  With ample outdoor seating, space to spread out for days, amazing food stalls, small mom & pop businesses, and delightful art everywhere, anyone within driving distance should make the excursion.

With 3 million square feet of development planned over the better part of two decades, the mix of office, retail, restaurants, public spaces, events, hotels, and residential development are adding up to a vibrant urban neighborhood center.  While COVID has curtailed some of the excitement coming out of Camp North End, there is still plenty of opportunity for some family (or grownup) fun.

In addition to visiting the restaurants, grabbing a beer, sitting round a giant fire pit, and playing giant jenga, head up on a Thursday evening (Feb 18th, Feb 25th, or March 4th) for the Skyline Drive-In.  The screen will be located on the northwest corner of the Statesville Avenue parking lot, and an FM radio transmitter will be used for viewers to tune-in to the sound from their car.  Get tickets and screening info here.
