Wow! You probably thought you’d never hear from me on a Saturday again, didn’t you? And technically it isn’t Saturday, but here we are!
Hope your holidays were happy and that you’ve been having a happy new year! Seems like ages ago, doesn’t it, and now we’re into tax season. Hurray! (said very sarcastically, of course)
Our holidays were rather uneventful since Kurt and I were sick for the whole two weeks with the flu. He had it worse than I did, poor guy, but we got through it and then took a short roadtrip up to Montreal. Neither of us had been since high school – me for a choir competition and he played in a hockey tournament.
Even though is was a mere 48 hours in the city, we walked a lot, had some great food, including the Braised Short Ribs Eggs Benedict (pictured above) for breakfast at Yama. It was OMG delicious!! We toured Notre-Dame Basilica, and went to a Canadiens hockey game, too. It was a great short trip, but I wish it’d been longer. So, we’ll just have to go again! There have been quite a few recipes published since our last newsletter in mid-December. Some of them were holiday recipes, so I won’t list them, but you can browse the sight if you’re interested.

I recently purchased these Herb Saver Pods to extend the life of the herbs I use for cooking. I’ve had them about a week and so far I love them. I’ve used them for chives, green onions, and parsley – though I had to trim down the bunch as the entire thing wouldn’t fit. They’re supposed to extend the life of the herbs for up to three weeks, and it will be much better for me than leaving them into the plastic bags with a paper towel or in a cup of water on the counter. They’re taller than a milk jug, to I have them either on the top shelf in the fridge or on the top shelf of the door.
(To get to the Herb Saver Pods, click the link above. It will take you to the blog and then scroll down to this Favorite Product section where you’ll find the affiliate link to the item as I’m not permitted to share Amazon links here in my newsletter. I may earn a small commission from products purchased when you shop through my Amazon links at no additional cost to you. Thanks!)
Looking to make some perfectly rounded cookies? Place the top of a drinking glass down on the cookie sheet over the cookie while still warm. Using a circular motion, gently swirl the cookie around inside the glass, so its’ edges become more uniform. Voila! A perfectly rounded cookie!
I’d love to hear any tips you have, and what has helped you be more efficient and organized in the kitchen! If you would be interested in sharing them with all of us, and if I choose to share them in our newsletter, I’ll give you a first-name shoutout!
