Buffalo Trace Distillery has introduced Eagle Rare 30, a 30-year-old bourbon and the oldest age-stated release in the Eagle Rare lineup.
The release follows the 2023 debut of Eagle Rare 25, which will also return. Both expressions aged in Warehouse P, one of two experimental warehouses operated by the distillery to study extended maturation in Kentucky conditions.
Buffalo Trace said the release is part of ongoing research into long-term aging. The distillery reports that it has conducted experiments examining factors including oak type, barrel char, temperature, humidity and barrel placement.
“Eagle Rare 30 is not simply about time, it is about what time can reveal,” said Buffalo Trace Distillery Master Distiller Harlen Wheatley. “Aging whiskey in Kentucky comes with inherent challenges: evaporation increases and barrel influence intensifies, which can lead to overly dry or astringent characteristics in older bourbons. The environment within Warehouse P allows us to manage those effects, softening the extraction and preserving the nuanced flavors that define exceptional ultra-aged bourbon.”
The distillery said extended aging in Warehouse P is designed to study whether longer maturation can produce different results compared with traditional aging environments.
“Through careful monitoring over time, we’ve seen how controlled, extended aging can bring a whiskey to a point of exceptional smoothness and layered complexity,” Wheatley explained. “Eagle Rare 30 is a clear expression of that. It is distinctive in a category where nuance is hard-earned.”
The 101-proof bourbon will be packaged in a 750-ml. crystal decanter with a display box.
“Eagle Rare has long been a study in patience and progression,” said Jake Wenz, President and CEO of Buffalo Trace Distillery and Sazerac. “Eagle Rare 30 brings that philosophy into focus, revealing the depth, character and distinction that only time can achieve. It represents a new benchmark for American whiskey and affirms bourbons place among the world’s most exceptional spirits.”
To support the launch, Buffalo Trace has partnered with Bonhams to host an online auction titled “Eagle Rare 30-Year-Old Bourbon Takes Flight: The Ultimate Eagle Rare Release.” The auction will feature 15 lots, including a full Eagle Rare collection and a stay at Stagg Lodge. The first and second bottles of Eagle Rare 30 will also be included.
Bidding is scheduled to open at 7 a.m. ET on April 24 and close beginning at 11:30 a.m. ET on May 8.
Following the auction, Eagle Rare 30 will release in limited quantities through Sazerac’s distributor network to retailers, bars and restaurants beginning in May 2026.
Eagle Rare 30 joins the Eagle Rare portfolio, which includes Eagle Rare 10, 12, 17, Double Eagle Very Rare and 25. The suggested retail price for this new product is $12,500 per 750-ml. bottle.
This follows the recent release of Buffalo Trace’s Single Oak Rye Bourbon, from the distillery’s Single Oak Project, and Low Entry Proof Wheated Bourbon Whiskey, the 28th release in the Buffalo Trace Experimental Collection.
