Margarita Prices Creeping Up

It’s no secret that cocktail prices have been climbing for years, and the long-standing most-popular drink— the Margarita — is no exception. Data from FinanceBuzz finds that a house Margarita now costs an average of $10.61 nationwide, which is up 25.1% since 2022 and 5.77% year-over-year in 2026 alone.

Margarita prices have risen every year since 2022, up $2.12 total over that span. FinanceBuzz tracked the average price of a Margarita at bars and restaurants in every state, and found significant regional gaps.

For instance, the most expensive Margarita can be found in California for $13.80, or 30% above the national average. Massachusetts and New York are the only other states where Margaritas cost at least $13 on average.

The lease expensive Margarita is in West Virginia, priced at $7.33, or 31% below the national rate. Alabama finished a close second, with an average Margarita costing $7.45, just 12 cents more than in West Virginia. No other states in the country offer a Margarita at an average price of less than $7.50.

FinanceBuzz in March 2026 collected the price for a “house” lime Margarita or equivalent from current online menus from five different restaurants or bars in each state. Using the pricing for each restaurant/bar’s smallest-size Margarita throughout, it then averaged those prices to find the average cost for a Margarita in every state.
