Mount Gay has launched its Exceptionally Aged Collection, a new rum series that succeeds the brand’s Master Blender Collection. The collection introduces age statements for the first time and debuts with two limited releases: Exceptionally Aged 15 and Exceptionally Aged 25.
Mount Gay produces both expressions without added sugar or flavoring, and distills, ages, blends and bottles them at its distillery in St. Lucy, Barbados.
The new collection highlights the work of multiple generations of Mount Gay master blenders.
Exceptionally Aged 15 began with former Master Blender Jerry Edwards, who distilled the rum on a single column still and matured it in ex-American oak bourbon casks. Former Master Blender Allen Smith later oversaw the aging process before current Master Blender Trudiann Branker completed the final blend in 2025.
Exceptionally Aged 25 was distilled in 1999 on a single column still under Edwards and aged exclusively in ex-American oak bourbon casks for 25 years. Smith managed much of the maturation before Branker completed the final blend.
“The Exceptionally Aged Collection is a tribute to more than 320 years of Mount Gay heritage and to the generations of blenders before me who had the vision to lay down these incredible rums,” says Branker. “By aging both expressions exclusively in ex-bourbon casks, we were able to achieve an intensity and complexity that truly reflects our heritage, Barbados’ tropical climate, and the character of the spirit straight from the barrel.”
Exceptionally Aged 15 has a minimum age statement of 15 years, bottles at 43% ABV and is non-chill filtered. Mount Gay says the rum presents aromas of grapefruit, pastry, banana, vanilla, plum, caramel and cinnamon with flavors of butterscotch, vanilla, caramel, orange zest, cocoa nibs, red plum, citrus and sea salt.
Exceptionally Aged 25 is a single-batch rum aged for 25 years, bottled at 47% ABV and non-chill filtered. According to Mount Gay, the rum has aromas of vanilla, red fruit, caramel, citrus and dark chocolate, with flavors of raisin, cinnamon, toffee, roasted nuts, orange zest, nutmeg, cocoa and gingerbread.
Mount Gay will release 4,942 bottles of Exceptionally Aged 15 worldwide with a suggested retail price of $90. The company produced 2,376 bottles of Exceptionally Aged 25 worldwide, citing limited 1999 cask inventory and evaporation during tropical aging. The suggested retail price is $199.
This follows the release of Mount Gay Silver Rum.
