August Wine Drops: Limited Releases, Final Vintages and Summer Standouts

Farewell vintages, precision Pinots, unexpected grapes, and summer-ready stars are hitting shelves and mailing lists this month. August brings a strong wave of limited wine releases — many highly allocated and already generating buzz among collectors, sommeliers, bartenders, and adventurous wine drinkers.

From emotional farewell bottlings and energetic new-vintage Pinots and Chardonnays to Sauvignon Blanc spritzes and lesser-known international varieties, here are the drops worth watching (and securing) right now.

Arista Winery – 2024 Final Vintage Releases

This is the emotional centerpiece of the month. After 30 years, Arista is releasing its last wines ever. The 2024 Russian River Valley Chardonnay, El Diablo Chardonnay, Ritchie Chardonnay, Reuling Pinot Noir, and a tiny allocation of Joseph Swan Pinot Noir mark the end of one of Sonoma’s most respected Pinot and Chardonnay houses.

Expect the classic Arista signature: pure red-fruit Pinots with fine tannins and elegant structure alongside bright, focused Chardonnays showing citrus, orchard fruit, and mineral lift. Pricing is expected in the $70–$150 range based on prior vintages. Once these are gone, they’re gone for good.

DuMOL – 2024 Summer Release

DuMOL continues its run of precise, high-energy wines with a strong set of 2024s. Look for Estate Vineyard Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, plus single-vineyard bottlings including Chloe and Lorenzo Chardonnays and Finn and Ryan Pinots.

Tasting notes lean vibrant and pure: citrus, stone fruit, and savory herbs in the Chardonnays; blood orange, violet, blueberry, blackcurrant, and black tea in the Pinots, with sleek texture and bright acidity. Highland Divide Chardonnay typically lands around $63 and the Pinot around $73, with Estate and single-vineyard wines climbing to $90–$140. Outstanding for both cellaring and sophisticated by-the-glass programs.

Silver Oak – 2022 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

The reliable crowd-pleaser arrives on schedule. Expect polished notes of red cherry, raspberry, blackberry, iris, vanilla, and clove with fine-grained tannins and bright acidity. Retail pricing for recent Alexander Valley releases typically sits in the $100–$180 range. It’s a versatile Cabernet that works equally well on wine lists or as a special pour behind the bar.

Quilceda Creek – 2023 Red Mountain Galitzine Clone 8 Cabernet Sauvignon

Washington State power with real finesse. This release delivers dark fruit, structure, and age-worthy depth from one of the state’s benchmark producers. Expect dense black fruit, savory notes, and firm but refined tannins. Pricing typically falls firmly within the premium Cabernet category at $100+.

Paloma Vineyard – 2022 Spring Mountain Merlot & Cabernet Sauvignon

Two elegant Spring Mountain expressions arrive this month. The Merlot is particularly compelling — silky, detailed, and packed with pure mountain fruit supported by fine tannins. The Cabernet brings classic Napa structure and depth. Both wines are limited and highly allocated, with premium pricing consistent with sought-after Napa mountain wines.

Tabor Hill Winery – Rosso di Lago & Blanc de Noir

Fresh from Michigan’s Lake Michigan Shore AVA, Tabor Hill offers two releases with plenty of conversation-starting potential. Rosso di Lago is a Super Tuscan-inspired red blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah — savory, structured, and food-friendly. The Blanc de Noir is a rare still white made from Pinot Noir, offering unexpected texture and complexity.

With pricing typically in the $25–$45 range, both make intriguing options for by-the-glass programs and educational tastings.

Padigan Wines – 2025 Rogue Valley Whites & Sparkling

Padigan brings a fresh lineup from Oregon’s Rogue Valley, including bright, aromatic Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc alongside a 2024 Carménère and Sparkling Muscat. Fresh, lively, and built for warm-weather drinking, the wines are well suited to summer sipping and creative beverage programs. Expect accessible pricing in the $25–$40 range.

Ceritas – 2024 Chardonnays & Pinot Noirs

Cool-climate purity takes center stage with new releases from Santa Cruz Mountains and West Sonoma Coast sites, including Trout Gulch and TBH Chardonnays and Cuvée Annabelle and Elliott Pinots. Think tension, minerality, citrus, red fruit, and precise structure. Pricing typically sits in the $50–$90 range for these highly regarded site-driven wines.

Joel Gott Wines – Sauvy B Sauvignon Blanc Spritz

Joel Gott Wines is taking Sauvignon Blanc in a decidedly different direction with Sauvy B, a new canned Sauvignon Blanc spritz made with California Sauvignon Blanc, sparkling water, electrolytes from Himalayan pink salt, and bright citrus flavors.

Created by fourth-generation California vintner Joel Gott and his wife and winemaking partner, Sarah Gott, Sauvy B comes in Lime and Grapefruit. Each 12-ounce can contains approximately 100 calories and 4.5% ABV and offers a crisp, lightly sparkling, gluten-free alternative to traditional wine and many RTDs. It’s an especially timely release for drinkers looking for portability, lighter refreshment, and wine-based options that fit casual summer occasions.

90+ Cellars – Discovery Series

90+ Cellars is encouraging wine drinkers to venture beyond familiar grapes with its new Discovery Series, a collection dedicated to under-the-radar wine regions and lesser-known varieties from around the world.

The series debuts with two refreshing whites. Lot 236 Pecorino comes from Abruzzo, Italy, delivering bright citrus, delicate floral notes, and saline minerality from an indigenous grape that has experienced an impressive revival. Lot 240 Torrontés, from Argentina’s high-altitude Cafayate Valley in Salta, is dry and refreshing despite its expressive aromatics, combining lively citrus with floral character.

Designed to make wine exploration approachable, the Discovery Series offers an easy entry point for drinkers interested in moving beyond the usual Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, and Chardonnay lineup.
