Review: Remus Repeal Reserve Rye Whiskey 2026

This MGP product is the first rye release in the Remus Repeal Reserve line. The final blend includes whiskeys from 2015 and 2016, made with MGP’s classic 95% rye mash bill. It comes bottled at 111 proof, and with a suggested retail price of $79.99 per 750-ml. bottle.

Nose

Butterscotch, brown butter, French oak, rye spice, baking spices, touch of mint. In other words: welcome to MGP rye.

Palate

More of the same —butterscotch, brown butter, rye spice —though on the dryer side as the sweetness in the nose flattens out. Notes of mint, fennel, and anise, all as you’d expect from MGP rye. A nice tannic backbone towards the end of the palate. Smooth and easy drinking.

Finish

More anise, fennel, and dry fruit flavors. A touch of black leather, and a medium Kentucky hug.

Upshot

This is 10-year MGP rye, magic words in this industry, synonymous for quality. MGP has bottled a solid example of its classic rye age/recipe. I love the nose, but the palate and finish are a touch dryer than I like my MGP ryes. But that’s personal tastes, not a knock, as my whiskey preferences lean sweeter. I sipped some drams of this with my rye-loving buddy the other day, and there were no complaints as we sipped good whiskey and watched our kids run around our neighborhood like little hellions. And that price point is perfect. Normally the saying is “$10 in price for every year aged.” With that equation in mind, 10/11 years here for $80 makes this a no-brainer buy for anyone who enjoys MGP rye.
