On Tuesday Constellation Brands announced its acquisition of SpikedAde, one of the leading ready-to-drink (RTD) beverages in the growing boozy sports drink segment. Constellation agreed to a payment of $75 million for 100 percent ownership of the fast-growing brand, though payments in the next five years could reach up to an additional $278 million contingent on performance.
The acquisition marks Constellation Brands’s first foray into hard sports drinks — a growing segment within the already expanding category of spirit-based ready-to-drink beverages. SpikedAde is the runner-up to “Ade” segment leader Super Lyte, which boasts 65 percent share of off-premise sales, according to Brewbound.
Chief executive officer Jason Cohen founded SpikedAde in New Jersey in 2025. It packages non-carbonated, vodka-based drinks with Gatorade-like flavors, such as Electric Orange and Electric Blue, into 12-ounce cans. Cohen claimed he raised $10 million in the first two weeks of this year alone to expand the brand outside of New Jersey.
Now, SpikedAde is ranked among the top 25 RTD brands, according to NielsenIQ data. And though SpikeAde’s presence now extends along the East Coast, Constellation’s pickup will bring the brand to markets nationwide.
“With Constellation’s scale and expertise behind it, we’re excited to see SpikedAde reach even more consumers with its distinctive positioning and continue its remarkable growth trajectory,” Cohen states in a press release issued by Constellation.
The “Ade” category has exploded this past year. With Super Lyte, SpikedAde, and Vodkade leading the charge, the segment burst past the one million case mark this year, according to NielsenIQ data. With better-for-you and health-conscious trends swarming the market, new and established alcohol brands are leaning into sports marketing and functional ingredients like protein and electrolytes. And SpikedAde fits the bill, touting a zero-sugar, 100-calorie liquid.
“As consumer preferences evolve and new occasions continue to emerge, we’re excited to build on the strong foundation the SpikedAde team has created,” Constellation president and CEO Nicholas Fink says in the release.
