This year’s annual limited release is a straight rye whiskey finished in a combination of peach brandy and toasted oak barrels. It comes bottled at 106.4 proof. The suggested retail price is $199 per 750-ml. bottle.
Rye spice, mint, sweet brandy flavors, red fruits, apricot, cherry, pear, very fruity, an orchard of fruit.
More classic rye mint and spice, plus those stone fruit flavors. Notes of milk chocolate, brown leather and spicy teak. Balanced and drinkable.
Candied fruits, light char, medium barrel, teak wood, cinnamon and sawdust.
Angel’s Envy has miraculously morphed into an experimental distillery thanks to the smart hiring of Master Distiller Owen Martin away from Stranahan’s in 2022. Not all experiments hit, naturally, and Angel’s Envy has had its share of misses. But the 2026 Cellar Aged is a homerun. This is one of the better releases I can recall from this distillery in recent years, up there with the peated cask rye, a bizarre bottle that I adored. The 2026 Cellar Collection is a delicious, unique blend of rye spice, mint, and a full range of fruits. It starts fruity in the glass and then grows even fruiter with time. Wonderful flavors throughout, I really enjoyed this bottle. Spending $200 is tough to recommend, of course, but if you get the chance, definitely give this memorable whiskey a try.
