Chillin’ With Wrestling Champion, Taya Valkyrie

From headlining major wrestling arenas as a five-time World Champion to taking over the airwaves with unapologetic, dance-driven pop, Taya Valkyrie has built a career on defying expectations.

Born Kira Renée Magnin-Forster, the classically trained ballerina turned wrestling icon, and longest-reigning IMPACT Knockouts Champion in history, is proving that reinvention is an art form. Whether she’s dropping hit singles like “Morning After” alongside collaborator Jeremy Thurber (Bleach X), co-hosting her podcast I Don’t Like That, or co-starring with husband John Morrison in Johnny Loves Taya, Taya brings an unfiltered, boundary-pushing energy to everything she touches. Now, as she steps out from behind the velvet ropes to take on the music world, We caught up with the fearless entertainer to talk about her upcoming EP, home bars, dirty martinis, and what she’s working on next.

Tell us about the projects you are working on.

Currently I’ve been finishing up my EP, FAKE, which will be released on my birthday, October 22nd! I also cohost my podcast, I DON’T LIKE THAT podcast, wrestle full time for AEW and just finished up on season 4 of THE TRAITORS CANADA. It was a busy summer.

With your busy schedule, what do you like to do with your downtime?

Sleep, lots of sleep. Love to go to happy hour with my friends and date nights with my husband.

When you go out to eat, where do you like to dine?

We try to make a point to go out to dinner once a week. Sushi at NOBU and steaks at Craigs are some of our favorites.

What types of dishes do you typically order?

I am not a picky eater; savory food obsessed; I’ll try it all. Seafood is my favorite, a dozen oysters and a surf n turf will always be ordered. Lobster Mac and cheese? Say less!

Any favorite bars?

Love to bar hop on a Sunday funday with friends around West Hollywood. Palomas at 33 taps followed by a margarita at the Abbey.

What drinks do you order when out? Favorite drink?

I switch it up depending on the occasion. If I’m out for a nice dinner, it will always be a filthy, dirty Titos vodka martini with a ridiculous amount of blue cheese stuffed olives.

Do you prepare drinks at home?

I do! Over the summer we built an outside bar by our pool. I wanted to create the feeling of being at a resort without leaving the house.

Tell us about your home bar. What is it stocked with?

It is stoked with all the essentials for a pool party. You want an ice cold corona, I’ve got it. You want a Malibu soda pineapple with a little umbrella, I’ve got it.

Have you ever been a bartender?

I have! When I was in college, I bartended at the world famous Cowboys Calgary. Think Canadian Coyote Ugly.

If you could share a drink with anyone, who would it be?

I would do happy hour with Jennifer Lawrence, she just seems like she is sooooo fun. Maybe finish off the night with midnight margaritas with Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock.
