This episode of The Buildout is brought to you by Farmer’s Gin. As a bartender, I’m always looking for spirits I’d feel confident pouring and recommending to guests, and Farmer’s Gin is one of them. It delivers exceptional quality at a price that makes it a true workhorse behind the bar or even your home bar. It’s made in Idaho using regenerative, organic certified grain, and grown on a family farm. That approach supports healthier soil, biodiversity, and ultimately better ingredients – which you can taste in the glass. The result is a clean, versatile gin that’s perfect for classics like Martinis and Gimlets, and it’s a bottle you can feel good about supporting. Bateman’s is one of New York’s “if you know, you know” bars. While other East Village cocktail spots have opened to plenty of fanfare, owners Natasha Van Duser and Carlo Olcese took a quieter approach to building Bateman’s into one of the city’s great bars. Rather than compete for the spotlight, they used the neighborhood’s booming cocktail scene to their advantage, initially drawing in curious drinkers as they moved between East Village hottest spots.
On this episode of “The Buildout,” Natasha joins Adam to discuss how COVID brought about the idea for Bateman’s, why opening in the East Village was so important, and what inspired them to create a bar set inside the world of American Psycho.
